Tips for taking your photos

Clinically reviewed: June 2026

The app guides you through each photo one at a time. After each one you'll see a preview. Select Retake if it doesn't look right. You can try as many times as you need.

Photos must be taken using the in-app camera. You cannot upload from your camera roll or send photos via the chat.

What to get ready

We need all your photos taken at once, so get everything ready before you start. The quicker we have them, the sooner we can get on with reviewing your order.

  • Your photo ID

  • Your scales (or access to a pharmacy or gym weighing machine)

  • Lightweight, close-fitting clothing

  • Somewhere to prop your phone (a shelf, windowsill, or chair works well)

Body photos

We need two body photos: a front-facing photo and a side-on photo.

What to wear: Lightweight, tight-fitting clothing so we can see your body shape clearly. Avoid baggy layers.

Best practice: The easiest way is to use selfie mode with the timer. Switch to the front camera so you can see yourself as you set up, then prop your phone somewhere stable like on a table or shelf. The timer is preset to 5 seconds, but you can change it to off, 3 or 10 seconds if you need more time.

Tip: You can also ask someone nearby to take the photo for you or take it in a mirror. Just switch off the timer and hand them your phone.

Make sure:

  • Your whole body is in frame from head to feet

  • Your face must be clearly visible

  • Face a light source for the best result. Try to avoid standing with your back to a window in daylight as it can create shadows (you cannot use flash).

Acceptable photos:

Not accepted:

Face hidden, body hidden or blurry images won't be accepted.

Photo ID

We need one clear photo of a valid ID document.

Accepted: Passport (any country), UK or EEA driving license (full or provisional), Biometric Residence Permit, national ID card (EEA countries), PASS card, HM Armed Forces or Police ID, government-issued photocard travel pass.

Not accepted: Screenshots, photocopies, work badges, or student cards.

Best practice: Lay the document flat on a dark surface and use natural daylight near a window. Avoid harsh overhead lights or direct sunlight on the document as they can cause reflections and glare over the text and photo. Do not use flash.

Make sure:

  • All four edges of the document are visible

  • All text and your photo are sharp and readable with no glare

  • Tap on the text to focus your camera before taking the shot

Scales photo

We need one photo of you standing on your scales. No scales at home? Pharmacy or gym scales is fine.

Best practice: Hold your phone at waist height, pointing down toward the scales. Tap on the display number to focus your camera before taking the shot.

Tip: You can use the zoom controls (x1, x1.5, x2) if the display is hard to read. Start at x1 and only zoom in if needed.

Make sure:

  • Your feet and the scales display are both visible in the same photo

  • The number on the display is fully readable

  • Avoid bright windows or overhead lights near the scales as they can cause glare on the display

Acceptable photo:

Not accepted:

Display unclear, feet not visible or blurry images won't be accepted.
